SEPTEMBER 2020
The last month has retained 2020’s unhinged reputation. Here in California we experienced huge wildfires which turned our usual clear blue sky a muggy sepia yellow, it ‘snowed’ ash and the air quality index soared to seriously unhealthy levels. Climate change is very real. I hope this serves as a reminder to be more mindful for how we all impact the way our planet is treated and adjust our behavior to treat her better. This, on top of the pandemic, AND witnessing the injustices of Breonna Taylor’s murder has been tough mentally and definitely caused me to have dreams that are not very nice : (
Tattoo studios are still closed in Los Angeles due to Covid-19. I spent most of this month working on drawings for some new merchandise - shirts, bandanas and tote bags. I also spent time at the pottery studio making and painting new pieces. I have so many ideas for new work I’d like to experiment with - big drawings (with colour!!) and more textile pieces. I’m going to try and stay focused and make time for these so I can share them in next month’s newsletter! Trying to hold myself publicly accountable here...
I’d like to share some music that has got me through this month. I discovered Korine on the day they released their new record ‘The Night We Raise’ and I’m HOOKED. I have been dancing and singing along with this record all month. Another record that’s been on repeat is Kelly Lee Owens new album ‘Inner Song’. It’s truly beautiful and I personally find it gratifying to enjoy the work of another Welsh artist, again!
Lastly, just a reminder to all my American readers, please vote. Despite living here for the last 7 years, I’m not a citizen so cannot.... please don’t waste yours!!
